A Word on Marriage
I can almost guarantee:
There will be days where you feel like you can’t do this…like maybe you made a mistake. There will be days where you think maybe you shouldn’t have made a lifetime commitment…like maybe it is going to end.
There will be times that you feel rejection more deeply than ever before…because you’ve opened yourself, but your husband doesn’t react the way you expect or want or need. There will be times you can’t communicate…because either he is too stubborn or you are too sensitive or you both just don’t understand each other at all.
You will probably be more mad at him than you’ve ever been at anyone. You will probably be more mean to him than you’ve ever been to anyone. You will probably think dirty words in your head…or you might actually speak them.
If you are like me, you will occasionally be so hurt that you will go hide in the closet. If you are like me, you will occasionally cry yourself to sleep. If you are like me, you will occasionally feel like the loneliest person in the world.
Sometimes, you will fight horribly over money…or the lack thereof. Sometimes, you will keep repeating the same argument and the same mistakes. Sometimes, you’ll promise yourself that you won’t ever be able to forgive him.
But I can almost guarantee:
When you learn that you frustrate him, as much as he frustrates you - it will be worth it.
When he does the exact thing that you needed at exactly the right moment - it will be worth it.
When you force yourself to sacrifice your desires for his - it will be worth it.
When you catch his eye across a crowded room…and you know he is your partner - it will be worth it.
When you realize, he is a good man and you are so proud to be sitting next to him - it will be worth it.
When you see him adore your children - it will be worth it.
When you forgive him and ask for his forgiveness - it will be worth it.
When you laugh together or fart or have awkward sex moments - it will be worth it.
When you remember the first time you realized you were in love…and you remember that, really, you still are - it will be worth it.
When you pray with him, praise El Shaddai next to him, see him walk with his Creator…it will be worth it.
Oh…yes…it will be worth it!
